Christmas can be such a busy time that it’s hard to slow down and take a moment to relax. Shopping, wrapping, decorating, cooking . . . it’s no wonder some of us long for an escape.
Perhaps you’re dreaming of a calming getaway before the big day, or a luxury retreat during the Christmas week itself? Whatever your plans, a December staycation in Pembrokeshire could give you and your family the chance to create magical festive memories, minus the stress.
Our five-bedroom holiday cottage is a gorgeous townhouse within yards of Tenby’s shops, cafes and restaurants. We have two cosy sitting rooms, each with a coal-effect gas fire and beautiful warm lighting that will make you feel instantly at home.
You might simply want to sink into a sofa, curl up and enjoy time with your family or friends. But if you’re keen to get out and about, there’s plenty going on in the Tenby area at Christmas.
Christmas shopping – without the stress
Tenby’s thriving town centre is always a special place but in December it’s truly magical. Local businesses take pride in decorating their shop windows and the whole town is aglow with seasonal cheer.
The streets are busy but the pace is slow – Tenby feels a million miles from the hustle and bustle of city life. The nearby towns of Narberth and Saundersfoot are also great for independent, vintage and antique shops, offering a real treasure trove of unique or quirky Christmas gifts.
A few gift shop recommendations in Tenby itself include Jago on Tudor Square, The Nook on St Julian’s Street, and Ebb and Flow on the High Street.
Winter walks in stunning scenery
December might not be the best time of year for epic treks along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, but there are still many shorter walks to enjoy, whatever the weather. There’s no need to get in the car – step outside Chart House and you’ll find spectacular coastal scenery in just about every direction.

Enjoy a hot chocolate (or something a little stronger…)
Tenby is blessed with a host of excellent cafes, pubs and bars. In the festive period, many cafés and pubs offer seasonal drinks including mulled wine or seasonal-spiced coffees.
Our recommendations include Caffe Vista on Crackwell Street, the Fat Seagull on St Julian’s Street, and the Harbwr Tap and Kitchen, also on St Julian’s Street.
Of course, you might just want to kick back in front of the fire at Chart House with a warming drink or three. Cheers!
Take a Boxing Day dip
The Tenby Boxing Day swim celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. It’s a wonderful community event that has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity over the decades. Whether you want to swim or spectate, the fun starts at 11am on Monday December 26th at North Beach. North Beach is just a short walk from Chart House. No need to pre-book – just turn up on the day with your cossie!
Looking for a self-catering holiday let in Wales this Christmas?
Our holiday home in central Tenby is on the doorstep of award-winning local beaches and just yards from the town centre. We renovated the house in 2021 to offer luxurious yet laid-back accommodation for the whole family to enjoy. The kitchen is brilliantly equipped and the dining table seats up to ten.
Chart House sleeps up to ten people in five bedrooms (seven adults and three children). We also offer special rates for smaller parties of up to six, where you can enjoy all the fabulous facilities, with the use of three of the five bedrooms. The house is spacious but still has a cosy feel – it seems to be just as popular for couples as it is for families.
