Holidays are all about making memories. The chance to share new experiences in stunning surroundings, creating those special moments that make everyone smile for years to come.
You might prefer to kick back and relax while on holiday, but if fitness and thrill-seeking are your thing, Pembrokeshire is the perfect destination! There are hundreds of adventure-packed events and experiences on offer in and around Tenby. Here are five ideas to get you started . . .
- Coasteering
Described as a combination of climbing, jumping, caving and swimming, coasteering is a unique way to experience Pembrokeshire’s extraordinary landscape. We’re lucky to have a number of coasteering experts in Tenby, with highly trained guides who know the terrain inside-out. You don’t have to be super fit to enjoy coasteering – trips can be tailored to suit each group. Check out Tenby Coasteering for more information.

- Wing Foiling
A cross between windsurfing and kite surfing, this is a brand new water sport that’s taking off around the UK – literally and metaphorically! Tenby watersports company SUP Sessions has invested in the latest Wing Foiling kit and offers two-hour lessons for beginners.
We haven’t tried wing-foiling ourselves yet, but it’s incredible to watch. Check out this YouTube video for a quick introduction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhVRC1Quqis
- Biking
Cycling around Tenby and the surrounding area is a fantastic way to explore Pembrokeshire. You can bike along rural lanes, rugged coastal paths, gentle slopes or challenging ascents – there are routes to suit all levels of fitness and experience. A wide selection of off-road trails is listed here https://www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/cycle-pembrokeshire, including the South Pembs Adventure trail, which loops its way from Tenby to Saundersfoot via the picturesque village of St Florence.
Not planning on bringing your own bikes down to Tenby? No problem. Pembrokeshire Bike Hire can deliver bikes direct to Chart House, or to many other start-points on the various biking trails. They have a huge selection of models, including electric and hybrid bikes. https://pembrokeshirebikehire.co.uk/
It’s also worth mentioning that Tenby is the destination point for the famous Carten 100, a 100-mile fundraising bike ride from Cardiff to Tenby, taking place this year on Saturday 7th May 2022 https://www.carten100.com/. If you’re planning to tackle Carten 100 and would like to book self-catering accommodation after your ride, Chart House is the perfect place for a luxurious wind-down.
- Axe Throwing at Llys Y Fran
Yes, you read that right! Axe throwing is an ancient Celtic art, and the staff at Llys Y Fran country park and reservoir are helping to revive this adrenaline-fuelled skill. Suitable for children aged 10 and above and adults of all ages, you can enjoy an hour-long session led by an expert instructor.
Llys Y Fran is a great destination for all kinds of activities. Alongside axe-throwing, you could also try your hand at archery, fishing, climbing and quad biking. There’s also a newly re-opened visitor centre and café. https://llys-y-fran.co.uk/
- Scuba Diving and Snorkelling
The coastal waters around west Wales are rich with marine life. Dolphins, seals, sharks and even whales can be spotted, making a boat trip a must for visitors to the area. For the more adventurous, a diving or snorkelling experience in the Skomer Marine Nature Reserve offers scenic diving in wonderfully biodiverse habitats, with the opportunity to explore wrecks and reefs.
Pembrokeshire-based company Celtic Deep runs exhilarating diving expeditions led by conservationists and marine biologists. Depending on the season, expect to see puffins, guillemots, porpoise, octopus and Bluefin tuna. https://www.celticdeep.org/
NB Many of the events and activities we’ve listed above are seasonal. Please do check company websites for opening times and booking details. For even more ideas and suggestions, check out our Things to Do page. https://www.charthousetenby.co.uk/our-location/
